We are etchers. Etching is a photographic engraving
process which employs acid to create the relief
effect normally achieved by removing metals with a
rotary cutter. It is, on flat sheet at least,
far more versatile and precise than engraving.
Photo-etching has been around for most of the 20th
century and Hockerill Engraving has combined
traditional methods with modern
computer technology to create images which are
deep or even deeper than conventional engraving,
it is not to be confused with the shallow,
surface etch produced by the majority of etched
name-plate manufacturers.

As previously described it is a photographic
process, and we can use
customers artwork be it black and white or film,
from fax, e-mail or floppy disc, or we can
produce artwork for you in any style, typeface,
alphabet or language.
The process is suitable for single plates,
for sequentially numbered labels
and data-plates with varying information.
